Chapter 48 Something Big Just Happened, Ginny
Lucky Draw
The reason she wanted a divorce and to leave this place was all born from despair. A decision made when her heart had already given up.
But now… now she felt something shift.
She could feel his care―his fear of losing her. The love buried under all that silence and pride had started to show, and the part of her heart that had long been numb began to stir again. It crept out, unsure but hopeful.
Cautiously, Ginny tested the waters. “You were worried about me? Why?”
Chandler didn’t really know how to answer. He couldn’t explain why he’d been so afraid of losing her. When he heard about the crash, when he realized she might have been on that plane, his mind went blank except for one thought: she can’t be gone.
Memories spun through his head in flashes. The more he thought of her, the more his heart clenched.
If this was what people called worry, then yes, he worried about her. No–he deeply worried about her.
As for why?

“You’re my wife,” he said, his voice rough, edged with something possessive. “As long as we haven’t divorced, you’re still my wife.”
Ginny wasn’t entirely satisfied with that answer. But it had been six years. Six years of waiting, longing.
This–this was still a beginning. That had to count for something.
He pulled her into his arms again. Ginny listened to the uneven rise and fall of his breath, and for a moment, she felt a kind of peace she hadn’t known in years.
But that peace didn’t last long.
Chandler’s phone rang.
At first, he didn’t want to pick up, but the caller was persistent. After the third ring, he exhaled sharply, loosened his hold on Ginny, and answered the call.
When he saw the name on the screen–Melody–a flicker of unease passed through his eyes. Still, he answered.
“Chandler, I don’t know if it’s the right time to tell you this, but I’m scared,” her voice trembled on the other end. “I don’t know
what to do.”
Thinking it was her health again, he softened his tone. “Don’t be afraid. The doctor said it’s nothing serious. As long as you rest,

you’ll be fine. And whatever it is, I’ll be here for you.”
The words slammed into Ginny like a sudden plunge from a great height. Just moments ago, she’d felt safe–believed again, even just a little. Now, everything shattered again.
How could she be this stupid?
Time and again, she threw herself against the same wall, and every time, she ended up bruised and broken.
He gives her a little warmth, a hint of care, and she forgets everything. Follows him blindly.
And now? She deserved this disappointment.
Chandler had his back to her. He didn’t see the way her expression drained of color, didn’t hear the bitter silence that swallowed her whole.
On the other end, Melody rushed to clarify, “It’s not about my health. It’s that I… I’m pregnant. Chandler, you’re going to be a father. We’re going to have our own child.”
Chandler froze. He hung up in a daze and turned, as if to flee. He made it halfway to the door before remembering Ginny was still there. He muttered a flimsy excuse and left, not daring to meet her eyes.
She watched him walk away without looking back. A bitter smile

curled on her lips.
Because of the delay, Ginny missed the last flight of the day. She sat in the airport terminal, trying to book another ticket, but all the upcoming flights had been canceled due to the crash.
She would have to wait.
Dragging her suitcase behind her, she took a cab back to the dorm. She felt completely drained.
She meant to rest for a while, but as soon as she lay down, her phone buzzed.
It was a message.
She tapped the screen. An image popped up–a black and white ultrasound scan.
A dull ache spread through her chest.
She set the image aside and scrolled down. When she saw the result–pregnant, 7 weeks–her tears fell before she could stop
them.
Her own child… her baby had been gone not long ago.
And now, he was going to be a father again..
No wonder he’d run out like that.

Because this time, the one carrying the child was someone he loved. Someone he chose.
Not like her.
He’d never loved her. Never cared.
Why would he ever care about the baby she lost?

At that moment, Chandler was sitting by Melody’s bedside.
She clutched his hand nervously, whispering about how much she loved the baby growing inside her.
He should’ve been distracted, thinking Ginny might’ve been dead, and yet the moment he learned she wasn’t on the plane, Melody had flipped the script entirely.
“Does Ginny know I’m pregnant?” she asked innocently when he looked away.
She’d already messaged Ginny secretly, slipping it through without him noticing.
Chandler shook his head. “I haven’t told her yet.”
“Melody, the doctor said your body’s too weak. It’s not safe for

you to carry this child to term. Maybe we should consider…”
“You want me to get rid of the baby?” she snapped.
“That’s not what I meant.“,
It was all too sudden. Chandler didn’t know how to process any of it. He’d just realized how much he cared for Ginny—and now, he was about to have a child with another woman.
He didn’t know how to face it. He couldn’t just force Melody to get an abortion. That would be cruel.
“The doctor said your emotions shouldn’t fluctuate too much right now. Just rest, okay? We’ll talk about everything else later.”
But despite all her talking, Chandler still hadn’t said anything about divorcing Ginny. Hadn’t made any promises about the future. That made Melody uneasy.
So when Chandler stepped out to get some water, she quickly messaged her third brother.
The next morning, Ginny was woken up by the sound of drizzle and a noisy voice.
She had the afternoon shift today. Last night, she’d stayed up

late, hoping to sleep in and recover a little.
But that girl–loud and restless–ruined it all.
Ginny opened her eyes, glared for a second, then turned to go
back to sleep.
But the girl shouted again.
“Ginny! Something big just happened!”
