Chapter 47 Thank God You’re Okay
At exactly one o’clock that afternoon, Will called Chandler to ask whether he should cancel the plane ticket.
Chandler was still waiting outside the emergency room. When he heard why Will was calling, he replied with a clipped, “Cancel it,” and hung up without another word.
But after that, he couldn’t stop checking the time.
When the minute hand ticked past one–thirty, his expression visibly darkened. Some family members nearby assumed he was worried about Melody. One bolder woman even offered a few comforting words.
By three–thirty, the doors to the emergency room finally opened, and Melody was wheeled out. Chandler approached the doctor immediately, and once he confirmed she was in the clear, he exhaled heavily in relief.
Just then, a woman across the room gasped as she scrolled through her phone.
“Mom, look! An international flight just left California and crashed midair. Cause unknown. No survivors.”
Chandler had been peeling fruit for Melody when the words hit him like a punch to the chest. He froze, then dropped the knife and apple, pulling out his phone with trembling hands.

He searched the news.
The flight in question… it was Ginny’s flight.
His mind went blank.
Melody called his name, but he didn’t hear her.
Noticing something off, she sat up and peeked at the phone in his hand. A flicker of triumph flashed across her eyes.
“Pick up. Pick up. Ginny, I’m ordering you to pick up the damn phone.”
His eyes bloodshot, Chandler called again and again. But no matter how desperately he tried, no one answered. The silence on the other end only made his anxiety boil over.
He finally hung up and dialed Will instead.
Will had already heard the news and had been about to call him. As soon as he picked up, he said quickly, “I’m already on my way to the airport. If you’re going too, just grab a cab. Once I get there and confirm the passenger manifest, I’ll update you.”
Chandler ended the call, grabbed his coat, and turned to leave.
Melody caught his arm, feigning confusion..“Chandler, what’s going on? You look pale. I don’t feel safe with you just running

off like this.”
She was trying to keep him there.
But Chandler yanked his arm away without hesitation. “Something might’ve happened to Ginny. I’m going to find her.”
Then he rushed out of the hospital room.
The mother and daughter in the neighboring bed had assumed he and Melody were either married or at least dating. But now, hearing that he had a wife, their expressions toward her changed completely.
Melody hated that look–pity mixed with disdain. When she sensed their judgment, she turned and glared at them viciously.
“What the hell are you looking at? Chandler loves me. He’s going to divorce his wife. It’s just a matter of time.”
Nowadays, even mistresses had the nerve to act righteous?
The mother and daughter didn’t argue. But later, when the nurse came to discuss matters, she made it clear that if Melody wasn’t legally family, she wouldn’t be informed.
Meanwhile, Chandler had already left the hospital and was stuck in traffic on the way to the airport.
Normally, midday traffic to the airport was light. Not today. The

roads were jammed the entire way.

He was so anxious that he nearly opened the door and ran the rest of the way.
By five o’clock, he finally arrived–but the airline still hadn’t released the passenger list.
Unable to wait any longer, he was about to make some calls to pull strings when a familiar silhouette brushed past him.
He turned instinctively.
“Ginny.”
Ginny had realized just before boarding that she’d forgotten her admission letter. After messaging Sheila, who confirmed it was essential, she’d changed her flight and rushed home to grab it.
She had planned to go straight back to the airport, but the traffic had been brutal. Now, she was finally back–unsure if she’d even make the next flight.
As she hurried through the terminal, a voice–urgent, desperate -called her name.
She turned.
And then he was there. Chandler. Running straight to her, arms pulling her into a tight embrace.

“Thank God you’re okay,” he breathed. “You nearly scared me to death. You’re not allowed to leave the country. I’ve told you so many times–without my permission, you can’t go anywhere.
“Why are you so damn stubborn? Why won’t you listen? What if you had been on that flight? What was I supposed to do then?”
His voice was hoarse, on the verge of breaking.
Ginny had known him for years. She had never, not once, seen him cry.
He never cared about her that much, not enough to shed tears. So maybe… maybe she was imagining it.
Trying to ground herself, she reminded herself that it couldn’t be real. But Chandler finally let go of her, demanding to know why she hadn’t answered his calls.
She had ignored them on purpose.
She knew that if she answered, she might not be able to go through with it. And this opportunity was too important. She didn’t want to give it up.
More than that, she didn’t want to keep being tangled up with
him.
Avoiding his calls had been her way of holding on to her resolve.

She hadn’t expected it to make him this panicked, this devastated.
Had he really thought…?

Ginny looked at his red–rimmed eyes, listened to the raw edge in his voice, and suddenly, emotions she’d tried to bury came rushing back.
This was the man she had loved with all her heart for six years.
If letting go were truly that easy, she wouldn’t have held on for so long.
