Chapter 46 Fainted Again
Lucky Draw
The moment Chandler stepped out of his meeting, he got the call –and without hesitation, he drove straight to the hospital, as fast as he could.
By the time he arrived, Melody was just being wheeled out of the emergency room.
“Doctor, what happened to her?” he asked, voice tight. “She was perfectly fine–how did she suddenly pass out?”
The doctor tried to calm him down. “She fainted due to extreme emotional stress. But don’t worry, she’s not in any immediate danger. We’ve administered a sedative. She should wake up soon.”
“However,” the doctor added, “her health is fragile. In the future, please be mindful of how you speak to her. Try not to upset her again.”
Melody had been triggered? By whom?
After seeing the doctor off, Chandler immediately questioned the nurse. When he learned that Melody had gone out that morning, one name flashed through his mind: Ginny.
He pulled out his phone and called her.
Ginny had just stepped out of the lab and was planning to grab

lunch with some coworkers. When she saw his name on the screen, she hesitated before answering.
“Ginny,” he snapped the moment she picked up, “I already promised Grandpa I’d live a proper life with you from now on. Why can’t you leave Melody alone? Do you even realize she passed out because of the things you said?
“I told you already–her health’s weak, she can’t take stress. Do you have memory issues, or are you just trying to kill her? I never knew you could be this vicious.”
Ginny hadn’t even spoken before his accusations came crashing down like a storm. As she pieced together what likely happened, a cold, mocking smile played at her lips.
“You’ve agreed to live a proper life with me?” she said quietly. “Am I supposed to be grateful for your generosity? Grateful enough to keep pretending I can’t hear, can’t see, can’t feel?
“Chandler, I’m not your pet canary. I’m flesh and blood. I have a mind of my own.
“And I’ve never forced you into anything. If you don’t want to live with me, we can get divorced anytime.”
She ended the call without another word.
With her appetite/gone, Ginny turned around and went back to the lab.

For the next few days, she stayed in the dorms. The night before her flight, she came home to pack. She hadn’t expected Chandler to be there, let alone sitting on the couch, reading.
He looked up when she walked in, then quietly went back to his book.
She said nothing. Neither did he.
She packed her things in silence, then left the apartment just as silently.
Chandler had hoped she would speak to him first. He didn’t expect her to be so unyielding this time. Days had passed, and still she hadn’t cooled off–or come home.
Did she forget she was a married woman?
Now she’d come back, taken her things, and left again. What did she think this place was? A hotel?
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. Just as he stood up, ready to storm out and argue with her, Will called.
“What is it?” Chandler snapped.
Will instantly recognized the tone–he’d become the punching bag again. He waited patiently for Chandler to finish venting before speaking. “I just found out Madam’s flight information.

She’s leaving the country tomorrow at noon. Do you want to-”
Chandler’s grip tightened around the phone.
He knew she was avoiding him, but he hadn’t expected her to leave the country. And even after coming back to the apartment for her things, she hadn’t said a word to him.
Did she really hate him that much?
“You still there, sir?” Will asked when he got no response. Then he repeated himself. “Do you want to talk to her? She’s actually really easy to talk to.”
Easy?
She was like a hedgehog. Every time he tried to get close, she stabbed him.
And now she was leaving without even saying goodbye. Was he supposed to go chase after her? Beg her to stay?
He’d never done anything so humiliating in his life.
“What’s humiliating about it?” Will said. “You’re her husband. Every couple argues. There’s no right or wrong in marriage.”
Just as he was gearing up for another round of persuasion, Chandler cut him off. “You got too much free time?”

But later that night, around ten, when he was getting ready for bed, he picked up the phone again.
“Book me a ticket,” he said to Will. “Same time, same flight as hers.”
Will hesitated, then reminded him gently, “Sir, you know your status. You can’t travel abroad without clearance.”
“I know.”
Chandler didn’t know what he was doing, either. He just figured–let Will get the ticket first. The rest… he’d figure it out tomorrow.
The next morning, Chandler brought breakfast to the hospital and told Melody he’d be going to the airport around noon, so he wouldn’t be able to eat lunch with her.
She assumed he was picking up a friend. But when she pried a little and realized he was going to try and stop Ginny from leaving, her smile froze.
Just past eleven, Chandler was getting ready to leave when Melody, still smiling, reminded him to drive safe. But before he could reach the doorway, she clutched her chest and collapsed
