Melody grew increasingly agitated mid–sentence, and suddenly her breathing turned shallow and rapid.
The moment Chandler realized it was her asthma acting up, he panicked. Without even stopping to change shoes, he grabbed his keys from the entryway and rushed out of the house.
Ginny watched his figure disappear in a flurry of urgency, her lips curving into a bitter, mocking smile once again.
A teary–eyed first love always wins. The current one never stands a chance.
So many friends had warned her of this simple truth. And yet, only now did she fully grasp its sting.
Chandler sped to Melody’s apartment. When he found her truly in the middle of an asthma attack, he quickly helped her with her inhaler and scooped her into his arms, preparing to take her to the hospital.
But she clung to him, refusing. “If you don’t believe me, then just let me die. Chandler, I thought… I thought I was the one who knew you best in this world. And I believed you were the one who knew me best.
“But now I realize, I don’t know you at all. And I definitely didn’t know that, in your eyes, I was capable of such cruelty.”

“That’s not true.” Worried that her emotions would further strain her already weak body, Chandler tried to soothe her. “I was just asking. If you say you didn’t do it, I believe you.”
“Really?” Melody looked up at him, full of hope. Once she was sure he meant it, she pressed on, relentless. “But Ginny thinks I did. Are you going to fight with her over this? She already resents me for what we have. If you take my side again, who knows what she’ll say about me next…”
She curled up tighter in his arms, like someone wounded.
Chandler had doubted Melody for a moment. But now, hearing her soft complaints, it all seemed to make sense. Maybe Ginny was just using this as another reason to lash out–because she couldn’t stand the fact that he and Melody were still close.
Fine. He’d just keep some distance from Melody from now on. But he couldn’t accept that Melody was being unfairly accused.
Once he got home, he would have a real talk with Ginny.
“For now, let’s still go to the hospital,” he said, looking down at her pale face. “I don’t feel safe leaving you like this.”
This time, Melody didn’t refuse.
While the doctor examined her, she clung tightly to Chandler’s hand, whispering again and again how scared she was.

The doctor, unaware of their actual relationship, smiled warmly and praised them for having such a good marriage.
Chandler wanted to correct him, but Melody quickly made up an excuse and asked him to go buy something.
Later that evening, after she was admitted for observation, Chandler sat at her bedside through the night.
Feeling triumphant, Melody casually brought up her past sacrifice for him. “Chandler, you really don’t need to blame yourself. Back then, I saved you because I wanted to. Even if I had the chance to do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing.”
Chandler looked at her for a moment. Melody thought her words would move him, that he’d finally say something she had long waited to hear.
But all he did was pull the blanket over her shoulders and say, “It’s late. Try to get some rest.”
Melody’s smile faltered. Disappointment washed over her as she slowly closed her eyes.
That night, Chandler didn’t go home.
That night, Ginny sat on the sofa, awake until morning.
When Ryan called, she had just finished getting ready.

“Have you decided what to do?”
He quickened his steps when he saw her coming down with her bag. Her face was even more drawn than it had been the past few days. Gently, he took the bag from her.
“Would it be okay… to leave out the mastermind’s name and just reveal who edited the video?”
If Chandler really cared for Melody, then fine–she’d let them be.
But this would be the last time. If Melody ever came after her again, she wouldn’t hold back.
“You’re sure?” Ryan frowned, clearly unhappy. “She’s hurt you over and over. If she had any remorse, we wouldn’t be here now. And Chandler–if he cared even a little, he would’ve never let her keep coming after you like this. Ginny, you’re smart. So why do you lose all sense when it’s about yourself?”
Ginny wasn’t blind. She just wanted a clean break.
“I already gave Chandler the divorce papers. Think of this as my gift to help them reconcile.”
Ryan had more to say, but hearing that, he suddenly fell silent.
“…As long as you don’t regret it.‘

He drove her to the hospital where Professor Edward was currently working. Now that they had solid evidence, they needed to deliver it to him immediately.
On the way, Ryan made sure–again and again–that only the facts would be released, not the identity of the person behind it all.
Once Ginny confirmed, he called his assistant and instructed them to publish the official statement he’d prepared earlier.
By the time they arrived at the hospital, the statement had already gone viral.
Wendy saw it right away. As she read every line, her chest filled with unwillingness and bitter regret.
The rest of the lab team saw it soon after.
Some of them, who had always hoped for Ginny’s redemption, immediately brought it to the professor, saying, “I told you, Dr. Jenkins’s reputation wasn’t bought. She didn’t deserve what she went through. Finally, the truth’s out.”
Just as the words left their mouth, Ryan and Ginny stepped into
the lab.
