Chapter 3 She Wanted a Divorce
The air stilled for a moment.
Ginny pressed through the ache in her chest and forced a faint smile. “Don’t worry, Ryan. I’ve already decided to file for divorce.”
Ryan’s deep-set eyes wavered slightly.
His jaw tensed. After a beat of silence, he sat down at the edge of the bed. “It’s for the best. Your situation’s complicated- divorce won’t be easy. But don’t worry. I’ll help you.”
For the first time in what felt like forever, a little warmth returned to Ginny’s frozen heart. “Thank you, Ryan.”

“He’s well-known. The medical school
invited him for a clinical series, but that’s only part of the reason he’s here. He’s scouting for talent-wants to take a few promising students back with him for advanced training overseas.”
“Really?” For the first time since everything shattered, a surge of hope stirred inside her.
She licked her cracked lips. “When is he leaving? Can I be discharged early?”
“Next month,” he said, frowning. “Focus on healing first.”
Seeing how serious he was, Ginny shrank back slightly. “Okay…”
Just then, a soft knock came at the door.
Melody stepped into the room in her heels and placed the flowers neatly on the table.
“I’m Melody Wheeler, a close friend of Chandler’s. I heard his wife was in the hospital, so I came to visit.’
Ginny’s whole body chilled.

A friend? The kind of friend who clung to him in public, in front of cameras?
A visit? More like a wolf “visiting” a chicken-nothing good could come of it.
Ginny drew in a slow breath. “Great, you’ve delivered the flowers. You can go
now.”

Her tone sharpened, suddenly urgent. “I
just don’t want him to get hurt. He really
cares, you know.”

It was impressive, how effortlessly she switched between fake sweetness and sly digs. A total Oscar-worthy performance— pretentious bitch perfected.
Ginny could only laugh, bitterly amused. Her husband’s taste in women was truly
remarkable.
She was just about to snap back when Ryan beat her to it.
“Only a filthy mind sees filth everywhere.” He’d clearly recognized Melody as well. His expression darkened. “Do us all a

She tried again, her voice pitched in mock regret. “Ginny, I really did come here to apologize. After all, Chandler only went to the airport because of me. He ignored your call because… we were having dinner together. So, I guess I am partly to blame.”
Something in Ginny’s chest twisted hard.
So that’s why. He didn’t answer her call… because he was having dinner with Melody, while their baby was beaten to death by those kidnappers.
Ginny bit into the inside of her cheek, forcing herself to stay composed.
“I don’t need your apology,” she said quietly. “I want to rest now. Please leave.”

Silence returned to the room.
Maybe it was the exhaustion, or the stress, or just the relief of being momentarily left alone-but somewhere in the quiet, Ginny drifted into sleep.
In her dreams, she turned in her bed… and could feel it-that heat, that burn of someone’s gaze.
Her brows furrowed. When she opened her eyes, she was met with Chandler’s face, close and darkened with frustration.
“Ginny,” he said. “You want a divorce… because you’ve already fallen for someone else, haven’t you?”
