Seeing them at each other’s throats made me happy.
But just as I was about to walk away, Henry chased after me again, sobbing.
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner? How could I be so kind to the son of my enemy? How could I face my parents?”
Looking at Henry, who was crying like a wreck, I felt no sympathy at all.
If it hadn’t been for him rushing to send me away back then, maybe he would have learned the truth years ago.
From now on, he would constantly remember the kindness he showed Rhea, and it would serve as a reminder of what he had done. Henry would live the rest of his life in guilt and pain.
“I let my parents and you down. I can’t believe I was fooled by Rhea all these years! Some people are just rotten to the core!”
When Henry saw Rhea shift all the blame onto my parents, he had already seen through her true colors.
“Jessica, I finally realize how ridiculous I was back then. Can we start over?”
When our eyes met, and I saw his hopeful look, I coldly pushed his hand away.
“Not everyone gets a second chance. Don’t ever show up in front of me again. Just seeing your face makes me sick.”
Henry stood frozen and at a loss. Just as he tried to chase after me, he saw my two injured legs and immediately stopped in his tracks.
He played a part in both times I was hurt. He had no right to show his face in front of me.
After leaving home and getting myself settled, I found a job and managed to stabilize myself for the time being.
A few days later, I saw Henry outside the office building.
In just a short time, he had lost a lot of weight, and his face was pale.
“What are you doing here?”
“Your father broke Rhea’s legs. During their fight, she stabbed him over 10 times, and even your mother, who tried to protect her, was not spared.”
Now, both of my parents were lying in hospital beds, unable to care for themselves, and Rhea had been sent to prison. With everything she had done, she probably wouldn’t be getting out.
I could already imagine how painful Rhea’s life would be inside, having lost both her legs.
Under Henry’s desperate pleas, I agreed to visit my parents.

“Jessica, it’s our fault. We let that ungrateful person make you suffer so much. From now on, we’ll make it up to you, okay?”
“I’ve always been curious, though. I’m not a rebellious child, and I was raised by you both. Why did you prefer Rhea, the one you adopted later? Is it just because she has good grades and speaks sweetly, making you feel proud?”
My parents lowered their heads in guilt, unable to look me in the eye.
“Because… Because she always told us you hurt her, even saying she saw you do something under the car. The next day, we almost had a car accident due to brake failure.
“We thought it was you at the time, but now we realize it was all Rhea. She just wanted to get rid of you and take ev- erything from our family for herself.”
Seeing the despair on my parents‘ faces, I couldn’t help but smile mockingly.
“Too bad. You figured it out too late.”
As they cried and begged, I left without looking back.
Henry chased me to the door, carefully watching me.
“Jessica, is there really no chance for us anymore?”
“We were done for a long time.”
I wouldn’t give these people another chance to hurt me. I had to allow myself to choose a new path in life.
