Chapter 8
Baron’s face turned pale as he panicked, “Clarice, those photos are fake! They’re all photoshopped! You know me, right? I’ll even blush when talking to strange women. How could I possibly fool around behind your back with different women?”
Abigail said calmly, “Whether the photos are edited isn’t up to you. This is a police station. Shall we have a technician verify them?”
Baron couldn’t say a word.
Smack!
Clarice slapped Baron hard, her whole body shaking with anger as she growled, “I’ve spent money to support your schooling, even got a’marriage certificate with you just to give you the warm feeling of a home. This is how you repay me? Do you have any conscience?”
Baron covered his face and dropped his act. “You’re the one who offered to fund me. No one forced you. You’re the one who promised to marry me and give me warmth. I never begged you for anything. If you want to blame someone, blame yourself for being stupid.”
“Besides, once you give me the money, I can spend it however I want. You don’t get to control that,” he said calmly.
“You
… bastard!”
Clarice lunged at him, she scratched his face with her long nails.
Baron didn’t hold back and fought back. The police officers quickly step in and separate them.
Clarice pointed at him and screamed, “You ungrateful dog! I did so much for you, even gave up marrying Daniel, just to choose you. This is how you repay me, huh? You’re a backstabber!”
Baron sneered, “Stop acting like a saint. Don’t pretend your hands are clean. You’re no angel either. You funded me because you liked my face and I can satisfy your secret desires. We’re both cut from the same cloth, so neither of us should judge the other.”
“Ah! I’m going to kill you!”
Clarice shrieked and tried to attack him again, but the police held her back tightly.
Abigail tugged on my hand and said, “Hubby, let’s go.”
I nodded and left with a parting remark, “Clarice, don’t forget that fifteen thousand dollars compensation. You have one week. If it’s late, I’ll see you in court.”
Even as we left the police station, I could still hear her furious yell.
“Why did you investigate Baron?” I asked my wife.
Abigail replied, “So that Clarice would finally realize how blind she was. She pushed away someone as amazing as you.”
“You think I’m amazing?” I asked.
“Of course. My husband is the best. No debate allowed.”
“Ha–ha!” I gripped Abigail’s hand tightly.
The days after, Abigail and I were busy redecorating the house.

Abigail told me, “I’ve resigned my job overseas. I’m staying here for good and be by your side.”
A week passes in a flash. When the deadline I gave Clarice arrived, she showed up at my door.
“Daniel!” she called out.
I gazed at her expressionlessly. It was only one week since I saw her, but she looked like a completely different person. She was worn out and haggard, but I felt nothing.
“I’ve already divorced Baron,” Clarice said in a rush, she fumbled to take out the divorce certificate. “Look, I…”
cut her off with a calm voice, “So what?”
“Let’s start over, okay?” She gripped my hand tightly. “I know I was wrong. Give me another chance. Let’s get married and have a child and we’ll live a happy life as a family of three.”
I smiled and went into the bedroom to retrieve my marriage certificate with Abigail. “Clarice, it’s broad daylight. If you want to dream, save it for the night. Abigail and I have already decided that our wedding reception is next week. If you want to, you can come. I don’t mind.”
‘No! You can’t be with Abigail!” Clarice cried out, “I love you! I can’t live without you! Didn’t we promise to be together for life?”
