Chapter 7
Baron looked aggrieved. “I don’t want to either, but college costs a lot of money! I have to maintain good relationships with my roommates, treating them to meals, buying study materials and joining clubs… it all costs money. So, I really have no money left.”
Clarice took a deep breath, stared long at Baron, then turned to me, “You heard him. I don’t hav enough money and neither does Baron. We’ll pay you after some time.”
“No!” I refused without the slightest compromise.
“Daniel!” Clarice glared at me. “Don’t go too far. It was just fifteen thousand dollars! I never said wouldn’t pay you.”
‘Then pay up!” I insisted.
‘You…!” Clarice was fuming.
‘What’s more!” I looked at Baron. “Do you really believe he has no money?”
Baron’s expression changed. “Daniel, what do you mean by that? You’ve also been to college, s you should know how expensive it is. Since Clarice treats me so well, I’ve no reason to lie to her.’
‘Hah!” I scoffed at Baron’s excuse.
t was true that college cost a lot of money, but it was not to the point of burning seven thousand and five hundred dollars each month, unless ….
‘You definitely have a reason to lie to her,” I continued.
When Abigail pushed open the door and entered, I was taken aback and said in surprise, “You’re back already? Didn’t you say you had company stuff to handle?”
‘Of course. I couldn’t wait to see you, hubby!” Abigail walked over and hugged my arm.
‘It’s you!” Clarice glared at her. “So, it was you, you shameless woman, seducing Daniel. should’ve known! You’ve always been after him!”
‘Why … yes and I owe you thanks,” Abigail said sincerely, facing Clarice. “If it weren’t for you and Baron registering your marriage certificate, Daniel would never realize who you really are and wouldn’t have had the chance.”
n a way, you’re the matchmaker between us,” she added. “I should buy you dinner, but… I doub you’re in the mood.”
Clarice stared daggers at her. If we weren’t in a police station, I was sure she would lunge at her. Abigail continued, “Oh, don’t look at me like that. You’re the one who pushed Daniel away. I didn‘ ‘uin your relationship. By the way, don’t you want to know where your toy boy really spent your money?”
‘After all, it’s seven thousand and five hundred dollars. Even I don’t spend that much overseas.” Abigail threw a sly smile at Baron, who looked visibly uneasy.
Before Clarice could say anything, Baron pulled her hand. “Clarice, let’s go. I’ll figure out the money.”
Clarice looked touched, she gripped his hand in return and said, “You’ve been an orphan since childhood and you’re still a student with no job. How are you supposed to get money? Don’t

worry, I’m just listening to what that woman says, but I won’t believe it.”
“Um, but….” Baron seemed uneasy.
Clarice did not give him a chance to say anything before looking at Abigail and sneering, “Go ahead, let’s hear what kind of story you’ve made up.”
“You’ll find out soon if it’s a story or not.” Abigail opened her bag and pulled out a thick stack of photos. “Take a look. See what your sponsored college boy’s been up to behind your back.” Clarice snatched the photos and flipped through them one by one. The more she saw, the darker her face became. Eventually, she spun around and threw all the photos right at Baron’s face.
“This is where your money’s going?”
Photos flutter to the floor with a thud. I glance down each one of them was Baron being involved with different women.
Ah. No wonder he burned through seven thousand and five hundred dollars a month. He’s been spending it all on women.
Clarice glared at Baron, her eyes burned with rage. “You took my money to mess around with other women? Well done. Just great!”
