Chapter 5
I said calmly, “I refuse to answer that question again.”
“Fine!” said Clarice viciously. She whipped around to face her girlfriends. “Girls, smash everything in here. If anything happens, I’ll take full responsibility.”
“Ha ha, way to go, Clarice! You should’ve done this long ago!”
Her friends get excited, grab chairs and start smashing things.
Clarice’s eyes gleamed with satisfaction. “Daniel, it’s not too late for you to regret it now.”
“Regret?” 1 shook my head, chuckling. I really, didn’t understand where Clarice got this confidence from. Did she really think I still loved her so deeply that I’d forgive her no matter what she did?
This wasn’t the first time she’d destroyed my stuff. Whenever she was upset, she would destroy whatever was within reach. Every time, I cleaned up the mess after coaxing her.
There’s a saying online, “Choose a lover with emotional stability.”
I used to feel exhausted by her outbursts, but my love for her gave me the strength to cheer up and keep going. However, it ended now.
I glanced at her friends, who were getting even more absorbed in smashing things and sneered inwardly. Go on … smash them away. The more fun you’re having now, the harder you’ll cry later.
“Clarice, calm down. Tell them to stop,” Baron tried to persuade Clarice. When she ignored him, he turned to me instead. “Daniel, just apologize to Clarice. If they keep smashing things, things will spiral out of control and in the end, you’ll be the one paying for it.”
What a fake! Just keep pretending. If I hadn’t seen the eager gleam in Baron’s eyes, I might’ve thought he really wanted to help.
As for him saying I’ll suffer a loss if this gets out of hand … Huh! Sorry, but I don’t see myself losing anything here.
I pulled out my phone. For every item her friends broke, I noted down its value.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. A smile appeared on my face,
Finally, they’re here!
I walked over and opened the door. When three uniformed police officers came into view, Clarice and her friends were startled.
The moment she saw the police, Clarice froze, then quickly spun around to see me. Bewilderment was in her voice as she asked me, “Did you really call the police on me?” Expressionlessly, I said flatly, “What’s the matter? Didn’t I say that if you and Baron weren’t gone by the time I got back, I’d call the police for trespassing?”
Then, ignoring Clarice, I turned to the officers, “It’s her and her husband. Sir. They trespassed into my home and now refuse to leave.”
Clarice and Baron were still in shock, but her friends immediately started attacking me verbally. “Daniel, I can’t believe you’re this kind of man. Clarice must’ve been blind to love you.”

“Exactly. All she did was fulfill Baron’s wish and you escalated things like this, huh? You ever called the police. A man like you don’t deserve her.”
“Hmph! Clarice, let’s go. This kind of guy is not worth your devotion. Just wait and be on his knees begging for you back.”
he’ll regret it
I reply calmly, “Sorry, none of you is going anywhere. You all thought that after breaking my things, you could walk away like that? Not that easy.”
“Officers, I’d also like to report them,” I said. “They had vandalized my property and I demand full compensation.”
Immediately, all of Clarice’s friends‘ expressions changed. Furious, they shouted, “Daniel, are you even a man? You’d go to the police over something this minor and ask for compensation?”
“Dream on! We won’t pay you a cent.”
“We’re leaving now. Try to stop us if you dare.”
I just stayed there, watching them composedly. I didn’t have the urge to stop them. After all, these three police officers would be able to do the job.
