Chapter 17
“Oh, but he already left,” the nurse replied. “He asked us to check with you instead.”
Estela blinked in surprise, then noticed a folded note by her bedside. She stared at it for a moment, lost in thought. “Let her get treatment first,” she finally said.
The man who’d saved her was gone, but he’d left behind a slip of paper with a number.
Estela picked it up and saved the number in her phone.
When she opened her messages, she noticed an unread one from Vance.
Vance: [Forget about the clothes.]
Her lips twitched faintly. She held the phone for a moment- then quietly deleted the message.
Not long after, entertainment news apps were buzzing with push notifications.

Vance looked directly into the camera and said, “What I owe her, I’ll repay a hundred fold.”
As the video ended, Estela’s gaze dimmed slightly.
After the incident, Vance had immediately transferred Phoebe to another hospital–terrified she might suffer even a minor injury.
Leon Group had never appointed a celebrity spokesperson before. But this time, they weren’t just naming one–they were committing for life.
And the variety show. Vance had always been extremely protective of workplace privacy, but for Phoebe, he’d allowed cameras into the company’s headquarters.
It was the first time Estela had seen him go this far for someone. She really was the one he cherished.
Estela smiled faintly–tinged with quiet bitterness.
Vance was nothing if not a man of his word. Once he made a promise, he kept it.
It seemed he and Phoebe would be tying the knot very soon.
‘Thank God, I have woken up from the dream in time,’ she thought.
Letting out a quiet sigh, Estela opened a drawer and pulled out the finalized divorce papers. She picked up a pen and signed her name without hesitation.
The next day, she called a courier to deliver the agreement to

the house they once shared.

Vance would understand. This marriage–born out of mistake- was finally coming to an end.
Later, Estela dialed the number left by the man who had
saved her. His assistant answered.
After learning that he’d been transferred to a private hospital
in Trurgh, she decided to visit him personally.
Before leaving, she made a soup and took down a neatly pressed suit jacket from the rack to bring along.
Meanwhile, at the private hospital, Phoebe had finished lunch and was resting. The children lay curled up beside her, napping peacefully.
Vance stood on the balcony, finishing the last drag of his cigarette, watching the quiet scene inside the room.
His assistant was still on the phone, reporting the details of the attack.
Vance flicked away the cigarette and spoke, voice cold and low, “If that crazy woman doesn’t face charges from her, she
will from me.”
His mind flashed back to the image of Estela, trapped in that corner, helpless. His eyes darkened.
“And one more thing,” he said. “Arrange for a transfer. Move her to a private facility.”
The assistant paused, unsure. “Sir, do you mean.?”
“Estela,” Vance replied.

The secretary was caught off guard.
Vance was actually showing concern for Estela. That was something he had never done–not once in all these years.

Word was, there’d been an attack at the hospital a few days ago, and Estela had narrowly avoided getting stabbed. ‘Could it be that Mr. Leon is feeling guilty?‘ the secretary thought.
But there was no time to dwell on it.
His voice over the phone grew even colder. “Keep an eye on her. Don’t let her die out there.”
The message was crystal clear.
What he really meant was–if something happened to Estela and the paparazzi caught wind of it, it could bring a whole storm of trouble to the Leon family.
Right now, Leon Group was at a critical stage in its Trurgh expansion. They couldn’t afford a PR disaster because of a
woman.
Even though Vance and Estela were secretly married, high society circles were especially sensitive to scandal. One misstep, and rival companies would be all too eager to
as thinking ahead. This wasn’t about guilt. And it ainly wasn’t about care.
The secretary finally understood, and let out a quiet breath of relief. Standing with Phoebe all these years–it had been the right call.
“Understood, Mr. Leon.”

He decided to make a personal trip to the hospital, just to go through the motions–maybe arrange for a transfer for Estela.
It was clear she’d been devoted to Vance all these years. A small gesture from him could go a long way in earning goodwill.
