I’ll Be Seeing You
Chapter 36
Great.
“Am I interrupting something?” He asked slowly, looking to me for confirmation of what was going on and why a strange woman was in our house.
“Hi, I’m Julia. Ellie’s mother.” Julia replied as she stood, offering that brilliant smile that far too many people fell for.
“Aiden.” Aiden nodded curtly. “A friend of Liam’s and Ellie’s housemate.”
“Julia was just leaving.” I spoke up quickly, casting a glance at Julia, daring her to object. “Thanks for the visit but I’m fine. You can go back to Vegas.”
“Well, I’m actually going to be around for a little while.” Julia replied, glancing at me before eyeing Aiden up in a way that made my blood boil. “I’m staying at the Embassy Suites hotel.”
I didn’t say anything to this, just stared at Julia and silently willed her to go.
“We can finish our talk another time.” Julia finally said and shouldered her designer purse before casting another glance. “I’ll be in touch, Ellie Bear.”
I remained silent and still as a statue as my mother finally disappeared out the door, the soft click of the lock confirming she was now gone much to my relief. Sighing heavily, I got up to tidy away the discarded cup and my empty soda can, ignoring Aiden for the moment. He hadn’t moved from his position but I could feel his eyes on me, searing into my skin. It felt like everything was becoming unnecessarily difficult. Just this morning I was thinking of how I was going to handle the whole situation with Aiden and make sure I got my homework done before my shift on Friday. Julia wasn’t even a distant thought this morning but now, her presence in my life had caused a storm of emotions and thoughts. She was after something but I just couldn’t figure out what.
“You okay?” Aiden finally spoke up, sounding much closer now.
I whirled around to face him, my eyes widening and my mouth going dry as I stared up into those ocean eyes that were watching my every move.
“I’m fine.” I fumbled, glancing at the seat Julia had been sat in not too long ago. “Nothing I can’t
handle.”
Aiden nodded, tilting his head slightly as he watched me. He was thinking about something but I could work out what was going on in his mind. I silently prayed that he didn’t try and dig into why Julia was here. While my body and heart craved his attention and comfort, my head was very aware that I wanted to put distance between us.

Chapter 36
Luckily the sound of Kyle coming downstairs broke our weird staring contest and I let out a breath in relief as Kyle came into the kitchen, looking between Aiden and me with a bemused frown.
“Hey cuz, long time no see.” He spoke, glancing at me. “Did your mom leave already?”
“Thankfully, yes.” I nodded. “Hopefully she won’t be around again.”
Kyle nodded. “Hey Aiden, you sticking around? We ordered pizza and it should be here any minute.”
“No. I’ve got some stuff on.” Aiden replied. “I just came to grab a few things.”
I felt a mixture of relief and disappointment again. How was I meant to talk to Aiden about what happened over my birthday if he kept disappearing? Although at the same time, I was glad I didn’t have the chance to, especially tonight. Julia’s unexpected appearance had left me feeling on edge and I could only deal with so many little fires at a time. Aiden disappearing for another few days just made dealing with my feelings for him easier.
“Okay well, more pizza for us.” Kyle grinned, heading to the door when the doorbell rang.
“I’d better get going.” Aiden sighed.
“Sure.” I nodded, feeling a bit like a puppy wanting her master’s affection before he ran away. “Have
fun…”
“Sure.” He nodded. “I’ll see you in a few days, El.”
And with that, Aiden was gone again.
