Chapter 6

While I was fleeing from Peter’s words in a panic, unable to sleep all night, Lucas was still devastated by my heartless response.

His chest felt like it had been torn open, the hollow ache reminding him of how I used to lose sleep over his simple fevers, worried sick about him.

Now, his mangled and bloody hand couldn’t even earn me a single kind word.

The me who had always tolerated his tantrums seemed truly angry this time.

Lucas’s heart was filled with irritation and panic. He left his assistant to handle the damages and dragged Jessica back to our home.

When the car pulled up to the villa, his heart clenched painfully again.

No matter how late he came home before, I always left a light on for him, like a beacon guiding him home.

Now our home was shrouded in darkness.

He hurried inside and stood at the bedroom door, steadying his breathing for a long time before pushing it open.

“Is your leg injury that serious? Why didn’t you go to the hospital to-”

But when he opened the door, he realized I wasn’t in the bedroom at all.

Our wedding photo hung on the wall, my face radiant with joy.

Our matching couple’s mugs still held water.

Our matching pajamas were casually draped over the bedside.

Everything was exactly as it had been before-except I was gone.

He breathed a sigh of relief, thinking I must have just been throwing a tantrum and hadn’t come home, but the moment he turned around, he saw the divorce certificate and wedding ring I’d left on the nightstand.

Lucas’s heart felt like it had been torn apart by wild beasts.

He held the marriage certificate for a long time before calling his lawyer.

“That’s right, Mr. Sinclair. Mrs. Sinclair came to the law firm today. I was afraid she’d change her mind again, so I gave you special processing-”

He didn’t listen to the rest, smashing his phone to the ground.

After letting out a roar, he tore the divorce certificate to shreds.

“Vivian, I will never divorce you, not in this lifetime.”

But the word “divorce” made Jessica’s eyes light up.

She hugged him joyfully. “Don’t be sad, Lucas. Even if sister left, you still have me.”

Lucas’s eyes turned blood red, like he was crying tears of blood.

He shoved Jessica hard to the floor and screamed, “Get out!”

After that night, Lucas used every means at his disposal to find me frantically.

But with Peter deliberately covering my tracks, even after three months of searching, my whereabouts remained a complete mystery.

Until today, when Lucas’s assistant brought him the rejected stock transfer document.

“Boss, Peter used his position as a Warren shareholder to reject the stock transfer you made to Miss Jessica.”

“Not only that, several of our major projects hit roadblocks today. The money behind it all traces back to Peter.”

The moment he heard those words, Lucas’s expression shifted slightly-he instantly knew where I was.

He grabbed his coat and rushed out.

He couldn’t stand the thought of me being near Peter for even one more second.

Just thinking about how I’d been living under the same roof as Peter for the past three months filled him with maddening rage.

When Peter and I returned from walking the dog and saw Lucas looking haggard and worn out, I wasn’t surprised at all.

I’d never planned to hide from him, nor was I afraid to face him. After all these years, I’d done right by him.

So I just looked at him calmly and frowned.

“What are you doing here?”

Instead of answering me, Lucas threw a punch at Peter’s face.

“Vivian is my wife. You’re just some stray dog the Warren family picked up, Peter. What makes you think you deserve her?”
