Chapter 9
But I didn’t want to hear anymore.
“Enough! Damien, if this is your love, then I find it disgusting!”
“You don’t know, you didn’t mean it, you did nothing wrong-is that it?!”
“Do these words of yours erase three years of hurt and humiliation? What gives you the nerve to ask for my forgiveness?”
Damien’s eyes were bloodshot. After a long silence, he spoke softly.
“I’m sorry.”
His words made me laugh bitterly. “So what?”
Damien looked up suddenly, as if seeing hope.
“Violena, I was confused before. I was stubborn, demanding that your heart and eyes be filled only with me, so I did those hurtful things!”
“Now I understand. I’ll definitely treat you well from now on, treasure you properly!”
“Please, Violena, give me a chance. I’ll do better than my brother ever-”
I couldn’t take it anymore and cut him off coldly.
“Don’t you dare compare yourself to your brother. You’re not worthy.”
“Delcher respected everyone. He would never-could never-trample on anyone’s dignity, much less use any excuse to treat someone like a plaything!”
“Damien, you have the audacity to mention your brother’s name in front of me? Do you think I’m that easy to bully?”
Damien’s tears streamed down his face. He couldn’t say another word.
I forced a smile.
“Damien, if you really feel sorry, then let me go. Let yourself go too.”
After saying this, I didn’t spare Damien another glance and slammed the door shut.
I don’t know when Damien left. I only know that when I opened the door that afternoon, no one was there.
When night fell, I stood on the rooftop overlooking the city lights, feeling like everything was finally about to end.
Just then, my phone chimed with a message from Damien:
“His wish was to see all the scenery he’d never seen before-with you.”
He also sent a video of Delcher at twenty-five, sitting before a birthday cake with his hands clasped together, eyes closed, speaking word by word:
“I want to see all the beautiful scenery with my beloved Violena.”
“I want to take her to see grasslands, deserts, forests, snow-capped mountains. I want to hold her hand and give her all the happiness in the world.”
My trembling fingers touched Delcher’s face on the screen. Three years of suppressed emotions finally burst free.
I couldn’t hold back anymore and broke down sobbing.
The next second, I received a bank notification-a nine-digit transfer had been deposited into my account.
Along with it came Damien’s second message:
The Septt family business wouldn’t be where it is today without you. So this is what you’ve earned.”
Chapter 9
“Go see the world properly. Take Delcher’s share with you.”
From that day on, I packed my bags and began visiting all the places Delcher and I had never seen together.
The vast grasslands of Mongolia, the deserts of Africa, the forests of South America, the snow-capped mountains of Central Europe…
We’d been together for seven years-four years busy with school, three years building our business. Delcher and I never even had the chance to travel alone
together.
Throughout the long journey, I carried Delcher’s photo with me, taking pictures of us together at every scenic landmark.
Delcher, we’ve seen all the scenery you wanted to see.
Though I can live well on my own…
I still miss you so much.
